Cycling

You travel further with two wheels beneath you

Seoul to Busan, South Korea

April 2026 • 400 mi

A sabbatical isn’t complete without a physically demanding spontaneous adventure like crossing a country by bicycle. Korea is the Netherlands of Asia with bike trails that take you from one side of the country to the other. Kamsahamnida!

Essaouira to Agadir, Morocco

November 2025 • 125 mi

Most people binge eat during Thanksgiving break. My friend Denis and I binge cycled, and ate tajine, as we explored the coast of Morocco. Nothing like cycling without a plan and figuring it out along the way.

Ancona to Rome, Italy

September 2024 • 220 mi (+53 espressos)

Our second bike trip: every 5 years, keeping the tradition alive. Lesson 4 of Duolingo Italian had us practicing our way across rural Italy. Fueled by endless pizza, pasta, bufala mozzarella, and espressos.

USA Coast-to-Coast

July to October 2020 • 3,862 mi

One week I was working from home thanks to Covid, the next I was working from the road. Without question the most grueling and rewarding trip I’ve taken. Lesson learned: how do you eat an elephant? one bite (mile) at a time.

Jakarta to Bali, Indonesia

May 2019 • 660 mi

A coin toss led Ely and I to take this trip within weeks of meeting. The easier route was a bus or flight, but we traveled by bike and met some of the kindest, most amazing people ever. This is where the 5 year ride began.

The 5 Year Ride

My good friend Ely and I have agreed that every 5 years we’ll cross a country on bicycles. Two rounds down and many more to come – next ride = 2029.
